Undergraduate Research Symposium

Information for Students

Student presenting their research.

The Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium provides an opportunity for Iowa State University to showcase and celebrate the research of our most highly motivated undergraduate students through oral presentations at faculty-moderated sessions. Student participation is not limited to Honors students, and we expect to have a wide range of disciplines represented.

Students will make 15-minute oral presentations in sessions moderated by faculty members. The presentations must be supported by PowerPoint. The Honors Program will organize pre-Symposium workshops to help students develop effective presentations.

Undergraduate students interested in, but not yet engaged in, research are welcome and encouraged to attend Symposium sessions to learn more about the nature and scope of undergraduate research activities at Iowa State.

Students interested in participating in the Symposium should complete and return an electronic copy of the completed Abstract Submission Form to Dana Schumacher and return a hard copy of the completed form signed by the faculty mentor to: Undergraduate Research Symposium Submission, 2130 Jischke Honors Building, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011. The submission deadline is 5:00 pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Abstracts will be reviewed by faculty and qualified graduate students. Students will be notified by e-mail whether their submissions have been accepted.

Two optional information sessions will be held for students interested in applying for the Symposium:

January 26, 5 pm in 1151 Honors
February 4, 4 pm in 1151 Honors

Questions about the Research Symposium may be directed to Dana Schumacher.
